Whole Body Cryotherapy

Experience the Transformative Power of Whole Body Cryotherapy Wayne

Ice therapy has long been used by doctors, physical therapists, athletic trainers and moms to treat injuries ranging from bumps, bruises, muscle injury and soreness to burns. Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) exposes the body to temperatures low enough to trigger a systemic anti-inflammatory response.

The client is placed in a cryosauna for just one and a half to three minutes which lowers the client’s skin surface temperature quickly and significantly enough to stimulate the body’s response without causing any damage to tissue. No other treatment can duplicate these results without a high risk of injury.

What You Need to Know About Whole Body Cryotherapy

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is a cutting-edge wellness therapy that uses extremely cold temperatures to stimulate a powerful healing response within your body. During a WBC session, you enter a specialized cryotherapy chamber where you’re exposed to ultra-low temperatures for a few minutes. This process triggers a range of beneficial physiological effects that promote health and well-being.

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is used by athletes of all levels to improve athletic performance, recover from strenuous workouts more rapidly, and to treat muscle fatigue and injuries.

• Decreases inflammation/soreness
• Shortens recovery time
• Reduces muscle fatigue
• Delayed onset muscle soreness

• Lymphatic system drainage
• Improves strength + joint function

Autoimmune Disease

An autoimmune disorder occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys healthy body tissue by mistake, causing prolonged inflammation and subsequent tissue destruction. Allergies, MS, and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) are all auto-immune diseases. Whole Body Cryotherapy was developed in 1978 in Japan to treat RA. Over the last 30 years, many studies have concluded that WBC is an effective treatment in stopping the auto-immune attacks by reducing the inflammation that creates pain and dysfunction.

Prevention + Health

A true state of health is not merely the absence of symptoms. Disease and dysfunction can be present long before symptoms surface. Chronic inflammation is a major contributing cause to devastating conditions such as cancer, heart disease and auto-immune diseases. Inflammation also dramatically accelerates the aging process. Even if you feel great now, consider using Whole Body Cryotherapy as a preventative tool to control systemic inflammation and prevent disease.

RECOVER SORE MUSCLES QUICKLY

Sore muscles, a stiff body and just feeling “inflamed” are common complaints from high level athletes to weekend warriors, young and old. These are also common complaints from people that are working too much, traveling too much, chasing kids around, spending the day in the car driving kids from school to activity after activity. If your job, responsibilities or fitness routine makes your muscles sore, Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is safe and more effective than traditional anti-inflammatory medicines. Aches and pains are reduced or eliminated, having an impact on performance and day to day life.

RESTORE

During WBC treatment, all crucial life processes are accelerated as the internal organs are nourished by the oxygen and nutrient enriched blood. If the performance of any of the organs was low or impaired, these deficiencies are remedied and organs and systems can begin to recover. Any deficiency that was not considered critical during a normal environment will be identified in this new, “perceived-as-dangerous” environment as the body mobilizes self-defense.

The enriched blood creates favorable conditions for improved internal organ function and regeneration, for expelling of toxins from the tissues, replacement of damaged cells and elimination of dead cells from peripheral tissues, for the cell renewal process, for boosting anti-oxidant capacity and for rejuvenation of the body at the cellular level.

BOOST ENERGY + PERFORMANCE

The endorphin boost and increased energy is difficult to explain until you experience it. The energy and feeling of well being is sustained and different than a caffeine high. Professional athletes are able to play at a higher level day after day. Tasks become easier. Focus is improved. Clarity increases. Workouts become more focused and the body reaps greater benefits. Your muscles recover faster and your body functions more optimally.

REDUCE + BOOST METABOLISM

Whole Body Cryotherapy boosts your metabolism through the thermoregulation boost that is initiated as the outer layer of your skin is exposed to extreme cold temperatures. During the 1-3 minute treatment, your skin surface temperature is lowered down to about 30-35 degrees Fahrenheit. Your body responds by speeding up the metabolic rate to literally warm you up. This accelerated metabolism lasts for approximately 48 hours and can burn an additional 500-800 calories during that time. Over time, as the body works more efficiently, the metabolic rate will sustain the boost in productivity.

REJUVENATE BEAUTY

During WBC treatment, the skin surface is briefly ‘frozen’, activating increased production of collagen in deeper layers of the skin (similar to lasers treatments of the face, where very hot temperatures are used). Blood vessels and capillaries undergo severe vasoconstriction (to keep the core temperature from dropping), followed by rapid vasodilation after the treatment. Toxins and congestion are flushed out of the layers of the skin. Blood perfusion is improved after several treatments. The anti-inflammatory properties of cryotherapy have been effective in treating chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne and dermatitis.

Signs of aging caused by oxidative stress are reduced by boosting the body’s anti-oxidant capacity. The skin regains elasticity and becomes smoother and even-toned, significantly improving conditions such as cellulite and skin aging.

REJUVENATE MOOD

There have been many mental benefits reported from clients using Whole Body Cryotherapy. Many people experience better sleep, which leads to a positive mood. During the treatment your body releases endorphins as part of its response to the cold temperature. These endorphins trigger hormonal benefits that help to improve mood and elevate a feeling of well-being. Biochemical reactions occur that normalize brain chemicals that can affect mental capacity, clarity and state.

The Treatment

The Whole Body Cryotherapy Treatment: How it Works

The Cryosauna is cooled using liquid nitrogen to expose the body to ultra-low temperatures (-200 to -240 F). Clients are not in direct contact with the gas. The treatment time ranges from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. The client’s skin surface temperature is lowered by 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit. The core body temperature remains unchanged throughout the process, however, it may drop slightly afterwards.

Whole Body Cryotherapy

During a WBC session, the body is briefly exposed to extremely cold temperatures, causing your blood vessels to constrict. After exiting the chamber, blood vessels dilate again, promoting increased blood flow, oxygenation, and the release of endorphins, which can aid in reducing inflammation and pain. Additionally, due to the extreme cold, your blood is redirected to your major organs while in the chamber. Once out, your blood circulates back to your extremities. This increased blood flow means that more oxygen is going to those areas which helps with recovery.
Benefits may include reduced muscle soreness, faster recovery from injuries, enhanced athletic performance, improved mood, better sleep quality, and potential relief from conditions like arthritis and auto immune conditions. One of the most common thing clients say is that they have a deeper sleep and more vivid dreams!
Yes, WBC is generally considered safe for most individuals. Our staff will review contraindications with you prior to your treatment to ensure that it is safe for you. It is essential to follow safety protocols, such as wearing protective clothing (socks, gloves, and undergarments) to prevent frostbite. Recommend that women wear sports bras as opposed to ones with a wire in them since the wire may irritate their skin in the chamber. If someone asks to do a WBC after a sauna session, run, or workout, make sure that they do not have a significant amount of sweat on their body. Drying off completely helps prevent skin irritation and ensures a safe experience.
Participants can wear dry undergarments or swimwear, along with provided protective gear like socks, gloves and rubber shoes. Recommend that clients take off any jewelry or metal which may irritate their skin.
At its lowest, the chamber’s temperature can drop to approximately -140ºC (-250ºF). However, the exposure is brief, and the air is dry, making the cold more tolerable.
Each session lasts up to 3 minutes. For hesitant clients, remind them that its only three minutes—a short amount of time that anyone can handle. For more eager or enthusiastic clients, let them know that you can do two sessions a day. These sessions can be back-to-back (with time in between to heat back up to 80º at minimum) or spread throughout the day.
The number of sessions varies based on individual goals. Typically, multiple sessions a week would be recommended; however, getting in once is better than not getting in at all! Every session makes a difference and contributes to a client’s health journey.
Many individuals report feelings of rejuvenation, reduced pain, and improved mood following a session. Individual responses can vary. Recommend staying hydrated after a WBC sessions especially if it is a new client.
Yes, Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is more effective than traditional ice baths. Unlike ice baths, WBC allows users to experience a full range of motion in muscles and joints after treatment, without the prolonged stiffness that can occur with ice baths. Cryotherapy can provide faster cooling and a more significant reduction in temperature compared to the slower cooling process of traditional ice baths or cold packs. This rapid cooling can trigger systemic vasoconstriction (blood vessel constriction) more effectively and is less likely to cause secondary injury compared to conventional cold therapy. Additionally, evidence suggests that to achieve therapeutic benefits like pain relief and reduced local blood flow, the skin temperature needs to drop to around 14.4°C for pain relief and 13.8°C for improved circulation. Ice packs, however, typically only lower the skin temperature to 1-10°C, making it difficult to reach these therapeutic levels. Cryotherapy, on the other hand, can lower the skin temperature to these levels, significantly improving its effectiveness for recovery and pain management.
